A total of 827 lost and stolen mobile phones worth nearly ₹2 crore which were recovered by the Cyberabad police over a span of 45 days were returned to their rightful owners on Wednesday.
This marks the 8th phase of mobile recovery operations carried out by the Cyberabad Central Crime Station (CCS) across its five zones. The recoveries were made using the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal, a government platform designed to help trace and block lost or stolen mobile phones.
Zone-wise, the Madhapur CCS led the effort with 180 recoveries, followed closely by Medchal with 176, Balanagar with 174, Rajendranagar with 153, and Shamshabad with 144.
Speaking at the event, DCP Crimes A. Muthyam Reddy stressed the importance of reporting mobile phone thefts or losses at the nearest police station or through the CEIR portal. Since the launch of this initiative, Cyberabad police have recovered and returned a total of 6,233 lost or stolen mobile phones to their owners.
Many beneficiaries of the mobile recovery drive shared their appreciation, citing not only the financial but also the emotional relief of getting back their devices. One woman, who had lost her wedding-gifted phone at a relative’s house, expressed heartfelt thanks to the Balanagar police for their effort. Another beneficiary, an IT employee from Gachibowli, recounted how he lost his phone at a vegetable market and was pleasantly surprised by the prompt and efficient recovery.
