
Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Police recovered as many as 827 lost and stolen mobile phones worth approximately Rs 2 crore over the last 45 days and handed them over to their rightful owners.
Under the supervision of DCP Crimes, A Muthyam Reddy, the recovery operation was carried out across five zones as part of the 8th phase of mobile phone recovery.
The recovered devices were handed back to their owners during a ceremony held on Wednesday at the Cyberabad Police Auditorium.
Zone-wise recovery details
Speaking at the event, DCP Muthyam Reddy shared that under Madhapur CCS 180 phones were recovered, Balanagar CCS (174 phones), Medchal CCS (176 phones), Rajendranagar CCS (153 phones) and Shamshabad CCS (144 phones).
Importance of quick reporting of issues at CEIR Portal
He emphasised the role of the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal in tracking and recovering stolen phones.
“People should immediately report their lost or stolen phones at the nearest police station or via the CEIR portal. Mobile phones contain personal data and hold emotional value. Quick reporting ensures quicker recovery,” he said.
6,233 mobile phones recovered in all operations
With this operation, Cyberabad Police have completed eight phases of recovery, returning a total of 6,233 mobile phones to their owners so far.
Public urged to remain alert
DCP Muthyam Reddy advised citizens to remain vigilant against cyber fraud and avoid clicking on suspicious links. For cybercrime-related issues, he urged the public to contact the national cybercrime helpline 1930 or lodge complaints at cybercrime.gov.in.
Grateful beneficiaries share experiences
Many recipients expressed heartfelt gratitude. An elderly woman shared, “My son gifted me this phone for my birthday. I lost it while visiting relatives. Today, I got it back. I thank the police for their efforts.”
Another beneficiary, an IT employee from Gachibowli, said, “I lost my phone at a vegetable market. Within a month, the police recovered it and returned it to me. Their prompt action is commendable.”
