
An 18-year-old motorcyclist from Rupert struck a parked car. He sustained “critical injuries” and died at the scene, reports Idaho State Police.
RUPERT, Idaho — Idaho State Police (ISP) is now investigating a fatal crash in Minidoka County that took place around 9 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22.
The incident happened near 300 South and 20 East, south of Rupert. It involved an 18-year-old motorcyclist, who was traveling south on an irrigation canal access road on his Kawasaki KX450 dirt bike, according to ISP.
The Kawasaki then collided with a parked Minidoka County Sheriff’s patrol vehicle, while the deputy was outside the rig.
The motorcyclist sustained life-threatening injuries, dying at the scene. ISP said he was wearing a helmet.
The involved deputy was taken to a local hospital via ground ambulance, according to ISP reports.
ISP had to close the east and westbound lanes of 300 South for roughly three hours.
Idaho State Police received assistance from the Minidoka County Sheriff’s Office, Rupert Police Department, Hyeburn Fire Department, Eastern Fire Department, Heyburn Quick Response Unit, Eastern Quick Response Unit, Life Flight and Emergency Response 1.
This is an ongoing investigation, and more information may be released at a later date. The coroner may release the identity of the motorcyclist at a later date, after notifying family.
