Liverpool have held talks with the camp of Real Madrid attacker Rodrygo following his return to Europe after the Club World Cup, TBR Football understands.
Liverpool have just agreed to sign Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt, but sporting director Richard Hughes still has exciting plans to improve Arne Slot’s squad further.
As a result, Real Madrid’s Rodrygo has emerged as a target for Liverpool on the left wing, a role that might even be occupied by Florian Wirtz on occasion next season.
Bayern Munich are still trying to sign Luis Diaz from Liverpool, meaning Slot could have a vacancy on the left.
And despite Arsenal’s own interest in Rodrygo, Hughes’ side have started pushing on with their pursuit of the Brazilian forward.
Liverpool begin talks to sign Rodrygo from Real Madrid
TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey understands Hughes is very keen to bring Rodrygo to Anfield, and he’s now looking into what a deal might look like after discussions with the player’s camp.
Rodrygo has returned from the Club World Cup knowing that he is not going to be first-choice under Xabi Alonso.

Therefore, the Brazilian has made it known that he would like to look at options away from the club.
Madrid respect Rodrygo’s position and are aware that the forward has begun exploring his options.
As mentioned, Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta held talks with Rodrygo’s camp prior to the Club World Cup and the Gunners are still in the mix.
Bayern have shown interest in the Brazilian themselves, however they have not stepped up their interest in a winger who Liverpool liked even before he joined Real Madrid in 2019.
Richard Hughes could buy two more forwards after Hugo Ekitike
Despite the impending arrival of Ekitike and having already signed Wirtz, TBR Football has confirmed that Liverpool could sign two more attackers this summer.
Darwin Nunez, Diaz, Harvey Elliott and Federico Chiesa are all likely to depart, and coupled with the tragic loss of Diogo Jota, Liverpool do need to bring in more attacking players.
Sharing more insight into Liverpool’s interest in Rodrygo, Bailey added: “Rodrygo is a fascinating player and he is ready to leave Real Madrid.
“The chances are he could be heading to England. He knows that his opportunities are going to be limited under Alonso’s regime.
“Arsenal have done work on Rodrygo and like him, and now Liverpool have had conversations – they like the Brazilian and will continue to explore a deal.
“Much will depend on Real’s asking price, but Liverpool, like Arsenal, have received encouragement that their demands will not be outrageous.
“Real are open to selling Rodrygo and are likely to price him as such.”
