The CEO of Perplexity, Aravind Srinivas, said that young people need to spend less time scrolling through Instagram and more time learning about artificial intelligence (AI). In the podcast interview with Matthew Berman, Srinivas said that mastering AI tools is now essential to stay relevant in the job market.
AI is developing at a rapid pace, with new advancements being announced every week. He claimed that the speed at which humans can adapt is being tested by this rapid pace of AI technologies. He pointed out that “the human race has never been extremely fast at adapting” and that those who don’t keep up run the risk of losing their grip on the job market.
“People who are at the frontier of using AI systems are going to be way more employable than people who are not. That’s guaranteed to happen,” said Srinivas. He emphasised that although social media provides amusement, it is not helpful for advancing your professional goals.
The CEO of Perplexity also added that AI will likely replace some jobs; however, it may also create new opportunities. Srinivas also encouraged the youth to embark on entrepreneurship or join companies that are embracing AI. “People who lose jobs will either start their own companies using AI or join new businesses that use AI tools,” he said.
Srinivas said that when business owners are divided over AI’s impact on jobs, companies like Anthropic, the maker of the Claude chatbot, have predicted that AI could eliminate half of all entry-level jobs in the next five years. Along with these, the godfather of AI, Geoffrey Hinton, has also been expressing concerns about job displacements. While Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said that AI will not only replace jobs but also create new roles.
Srinivas’s company, Perplexity AI, is known for introducing an AI-powered conversational search engine, which became one of the most popular AI tools in a short time. Recently, the company also introduced its standalone ‘Agentic browser’ Comet. For those who are yet to try Perplexity, last week Bharti Airtel announced that it is offering a one-year free subscription to Perplexity Pro for eligible customers. With the help of a Pro Subscription, users can access cutting-edge language models like GPT-4o, Claude 4.0 Sonnet, and Gemini.
